Privacy Policy
Effective 27 August 2026
almost. is a real-time "getting ready" tracker. It lets a group of friends see who's ready, who's almost, and who's on the way for an outing, without the back-and-forth of texting. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We keep it minimal on purpose.
Information you provide
- Display name: the name or nickname you enter for an outing.
- Avatar: an emoji you pick to represent you.
- Outing and status details: the occasion name, venue name (as free text), start and leave times, your getting-ready status, and your estimated arrival time. You enter all of these yourself.
We do not ask for your email, password, or phone number to use almost.
Information collected automatically
- Anonymous identifier: we use Firebase Anonymous Authentication to give your device a random ID so your status can sync in real time. It is not tied to your name, email, or a personal account.
- Push notification token: if you install the app and allow notifications, we store a device token so we can send you outing updates and reminders. You can turn notifications off at any time in your device settings.
- Usage analytics: we use Plausible Analytics, a privacy-focused, cookie-less service, to understand aggregate usage such as how many outings are created. It does not collect personal information and does not track you across other websites or apps.
Location
almost. does not request, collect, or store your location. Some buttons open a venue in Google Maps. The Maps app may use your location on its own side to show directions, but almost. never receives or stores it.
How we use your information
- To run the core feature: sharing your status and ETA live with the people in your outing.
- To send you notifications and reminders about outings you're part of.
- To show a fun end-of-outing recap.
- To understand aggregate usage so we can improve the app.
What's visible to others
An outing works by sharing. When you join an outing room, the other people in that room can see your display name, avatar, status, and estimated arrival time. Only people with the room's invite link or code can join it. Your data is not shown to anyone outside your outing.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your data or use it for advertising. We rely on a small number of service providers to run almost.:
- Google Firebase: hosts the real-time database, anonymous authentication, and push messaging.
- Plausible: privacy-first, aggregate analytics.
- Google Maps: used only when you choose to open a venue in maps.
Data retention
Outing information stays in the room while the outing is active, and is cleared or archived when the session ends. A minimal, anonymous history of your outings may be kept to power features like recaps and future improvements. You can ask us to delete your data at any time (see below).
Your choices
- Turn notifications on or off in your device settings.
- Decline the location prompt without losing core functionality.
- Request access to, or deletion of, the data associated with your device by emailing us.
Children
almost. is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Security
We use reasonable technical measures to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International processing
Your information is processed on Google Firebase infrastructure, which may store and process data in countries other than your own.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page.
